Hello! My name is Joella Mayberry. I am excited about being a Cinnamongirl and experiencing my upcoming trip to Japan. Like other trips abroad, this trip will give me the opportunity to expand and explore my mindset about other regions and people around the world. Visiting Japan will give me the chance to immerse myself in the culture, more than I would by learning from a classroom, a book, or a website. The best part of this opportunity to travel with Cinnamongirl will be the fact that I get to take the trip with girls and mentors who look like me, something I’ve never had the opportunity of experiencing. Another bonus -- I love Japanese food! I’d love to experience new and authentic Japanese delicacies such as Sushi, Gyoza and Udon.
I am a sophomore at Holy Names High School. I love cooking and baking (well, mostly baking). When I get hungry or I need to clear my mind, I search for a new recipe to try. A few of my favorite recipes are making brownies from scratch, apple pie, and fruit tarts. Another passion of mine is old-school scrapbooking. Printed photos, craft paper, and stickers have been a fun way for me to document my memories.
I will be traveling to Tokyo, Osaka, and Kyoto, Japan June 19 - 29, 2023. I most look forward to seeing the Kanazawa's Kenrokuen Gardens because the photos I’ve seen online are gorgeous and experiencing a Traditional Japanese Tea Ceremony because I loved having tea parties when I was little.
My life-goal is to visit at least one region in each continent (maybe even sometimes more than one!). I’ve traveled to Rome, Italy, Antigua,and Guatemala with my elementary and junior high schools. Japan will be my first visit to Asia.
Help me experience distance and difference. Please give a donation of any size. My goal is to raise the cost of my travel. It’s also my mission that every Travelgirl in the program gets to go on this trip. If I raise extra funds, I plan to support the fundraising efforts of my fellow Cinnamongirls. Any (and every) amount makes a difference. I look forward to sharing my travels with you when I return.
