Hello my name is Olivia and I am 13 years olds. You may not know me personally so let me tell you a little bit about myself. I am the daughter of Alondra & Darnell and granddaughter to Delores and Regina. I am currently in 8th grade and am an honor student. My favorite subjects in school are math and English. When I’m not studying for school, I’m usually reading, playing the ukulele, or talking with my friends. I also like photography and plan to take lots of pictures in DC with your help. I have been a member of Cinnamongirl’s Passport program for three years. I like being a part of the Passport book club because I get to connect with other girls who share a love of reading. Thanks to Cinnamongirl, I was able to meet two of my favorite authors Lisa Moore Ramee and Kelly Yang. I actually interviewed Kelly Yang at the Bay Area Book Festival this year. Recently, a group of us went to see the play King Lear. The cast was all Black. I forgot to mention I like acting too. It was fun to just hangout and talk with the other girls from the other cohorts.
Now that you know more about me, I would be honored if you support me in my efforts to join Cinnamongirl on a trip to Washington DC with other girls like me who are destined for greatness. We leave the first week in April. I know it will be a life changing experience. I am looking forward to meeting elected officials, touring our nations capital, and visiting the National Museum of African American History & Culture. I have never been to our country’s capital and would like to take in all of that history up close. I’ve read about The March on Washington, and heard Martin Luther King’s “I Have A Dream Speech.” Standing in front of the Lincoln Memorial where it happened would be really cool. I love to travel in general and haven’t gone anywhere far since the pandemic hit. Who knows? Maybe someday I might actually run for office or serve on the Supreme Court. The sky is the limit!
