Konnichiwa family, friends, and potential donors,

I have been chosen to participate in an amazing program for girls of color called Cinnamongirl, https://cinnamongirl.org/ . I, along with eleven other girls are taking a trip of a lifetime to Japan. Before I go any further, let me share a little information about myself for those of you who may not know me personally. My name is Symone Smith, and I am a sophomore at Holy Names High School. If I could describe myself in two words, I would say I am creative and free- spirited. My hobbies include painting, sketching and photography. I also enjoy listening to music from the 70’s, 80’s, and 90’s. In addition, I enjoy reading and learning about cultures from around the world.

With your help, I will be able to experience the vibrant and unique culture of Japan. In June of 2023, I will be traveling to three specific cities in Japan. Tokyo, Osaka, and Kyoto. I look forward to immersing myself in the Japanese culture and expanding my knowledge and experiences as an African American young woman. I cannot wait to experience the art, music, and cuisine of Japan. I look forward to enjoying foods such as sushi, ramen, and donburi. In addition, I am extremely excited to visit historical monuments and I even have the opportunity to participate in a traditional Japanese tea ceremony. Most importantly, I am delighted that I get to experience all these enriching moments with girls of color such as myself.

Traveling to Japan will be a life changing experience. This trip will help me gain the confidence and independence to step out of my comfort zone and expand my perspective of the world around me. My goal is to raise $6,000 which will cover the cost of my airfare, lodging, food, and souvenirs. Any donation you can make would be greatly appreciated. Thank you all for supporting me!
