Hello!
My name is Zora Williams and I am a fifteen year old sophomore currently attending the Oakland School for the Arts’ Classical Piano Program. I am very passionate about humanities, specifically literature, philosophy, international affairs and linguistics.
I am new to the Cinnamongirl travel cohort, but I look forward to the opportunity to be immersed in a new culture and build strong relationships with other interesting black girls.
As someone who has lived in many different places throughout my life, both in and outside of the U.S., I think that one of the most important things in life is the ability to broaden one’s worldview and become a global citizen. I believe that this trip to Japan will help me to achieve that. During my stay in Japan, we will be visiting multiple locations within Osaka, Tokyo and Kyoto including, but not limited to, the Shinto Meiji Shrine and Mt. Fuji-Hakone-Izu National Park.
While the location alone is thrilling, what excites me the most about this trip are the many new experiences and challenges that it poses. I love learning new languages so I look forward to learning a language that is not Latin based. Furthermore, studying both the history and modern culture of Japan is something that greatly interests me as it is seldom taught in school and it will be nice to learn it from a first hand source.
My goal is to raise $6,500 for transportation, meals and board for my trip to Japan. I would greatly appreciate any contribution you can make.
I look forward to keeping you all updated on my journey!
Thank you for your support!
