Hello everyone! My name is Malia and I am a 9th grader with hopes of traveling to Peru through Cinnamongirl. Cinnamongirl is an organization that liberates young women of color, celebrates sisterhood between young women, and creates a place for them to thrive. Cinnamongirl uses a cohort model to encourage young women to expand their reading, writing, and business acumen through entrepreneurship. After being a part of the Passport Book Club cohort for two years, and having such a great connection with everyone, I decided to branch out and try a new experience that will challenge me. This specific cohort, Travelgirl, provides opportunities to travel around the world and gain experiences that will help me to expand my comfort zone and cultural awareness. Please assist me with achieving this developmental milestone by donating to my trip. I need you to support me with raising the required funds for my cinnamon sisters and I to experience this amazing growth opportunity!

Initially, I was very nervous to travel to Peru, but after some reflection I became extremely excited. I mean, Peru? Of course, I’m going to say yes! How often does someone my age get to say that they’ve been to Peru? Until this point, all I’ve known about Peru is that it is a country in South America, and it was mentioned in the movie “Paddington” when I was 6 years old. Now at 15, I think it would be a once in a life time experience. Travel to Peru can help me accomplish my new year’s resolution of meeting new people, going out more, traveling, being more courageous, and learning about others. Peru is such an unexpected place for me to go. I really want to explore its natural wonders, rich culture and historic landmarks. I love to cook so I also look forward to learning about Peruvian food and its preparation using local ingredients. I’ll share any recipes that I learn from my experiences! Sharing this life experience with other girls, making closer bonds, and helping each other reach our goals is something that I’m happy to be a part of!

I’m learning Spanish in school because it is so useful not only in the US but also in other countries. Being in a Spanish speaking country like Peru can help me practice and get better with the language. Even if it’s asking for directions, I would be developing myself as a leader and independent traveler. I would love to start my journey in international travel and the beautiful and rich Peru is such an amazing place for that!

With that, I humbly ask anyone who is willing to read through this or wants to support my journey to consider donating to our trip. Any form of donation is appreciated and at any amount you can spare. Thank you to everyone who has read through this or even clicked the link for this website, and thank you to everyone who donates! You will make it possible for us to go on a trip of a lifetime. Thank you.
